DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.  Warren presented and reviewed his 2008 Accumulated Revenue Report with the Board.  Warren provided a project update.  Weather permitting; starting tomorrow, the Highway Department will start replacing two culverts on Independence Road north of SR 424.

 

Nancy Porter, President, and Lisa Fortner, Shelter Director, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the Defiance County Humane Society.  During November, the Humane Society is having a pre-holiday special with the price for cat adoptions at half the regular price.  The Humane Society has been hosting birthday parties at no cost to the participants.  The guests bring needed items for the shelter in lieu of presents for the person the party is for.  The participants are able to decorate to room, have games and food, and are able to play with kid-friendly animals.

 

The Commissioners approved the ODOT Abandonment Agreement for State Route 424.  This will become effective as of 12:01 p.m. on or about November 14, 2008.  This date is tentative and subject to the actual completion of remaining construction items on expanded US 24.  Portions of existing State Route 424 and State Service Roads will be abandoned by the State of Ohio and accepted by Defiance County.  As part of the agreement, ODOT has committed to replacing five culverts.  Following the replacement of the culverts, the pavement from east City of Defiance corporation limit to the Henry County Line will be resurfaced.
