DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the agreement with DLZ Architecture, Inc. for the architectural services for the Courthouse project.

 

The ‘The Barb Breckler Annual Maumee River Shoreline Sweep’ will be held Saturday June 15, 2013, 7:30 am to noon.  This is the 30th year for this event, making it the longest running water cleanup event in the state of Ohio!!!  Boaters helping boaters is the theme of the Lima Power Squadron.  At 8:00 am they will be available at the Independence Dam Boat Launch and will offer FREE BOAT INSPECTIONS!  The inspection sticker is indicative of a safe boat. If not compliant, you will be aware of what is needed with no fines issued. This year’s event will be concentrating on the downtown river area around Kingsbury Park.  Please call Defiance County Environmental Services at 419-782-5442 for more information.

 

The Commissioners’ Office recently received the monthly activity report from Cecilia Parsons, Defiance County Recorder. In May there were the following instruments recorded: 195 deeds, 213 mortgages, 159 releases, 2 power of attorneys, 3 plats, and 1 lease. This compares to 191 deeds, 243 mortgages, 248 releases, 11 power of attorneys, and 1 plat in May 2012. There was $29,669.00 in receipts, of which $14,509.00 went to the Housing Trust Fund and $12,900.00 to the General Fund. This compares to $34,107.50 in receipts in May, 2012, of which $16,752.00 went to the Housing Trust Fund and $14,627.25 to the General Fund.
