Title Division
CERTIFICATE OF TITLE will be null and void if alterations or erasures are present. In this event a replacement title will have to be obtained. If title is going into 2 or more names, all will need to sign.
MEMORANDUM TITLE should be obtained for owners use if there is a lien. It is a copy of the original title, to be used for plate purposes only.
TRANSFER OF TITLE must be made within 30 days of notary date to avoid a $5.00 penalty.
ON BACK OF TITLE enter purchaser's name and address, purchase price, actual mileage, check proper box, and seller signs in the presence of a Notary Public, or Title Officer.
USED VEHICLES purchased out of state require Serial Number Inspection from a licensed inspection station.
VEHICLES purchased out of state from dealers require a Bill of Sale showing purchase price, amount of tax paid and trade-allowance, and if lien is to be shown on title, need contract attached.
If your NAME is changed through marriage or other court proceedings, the name on your certificate of Title cannot be changed. There is no authority in the law to issue a new title in your new name, for the same vehicle. When you apply for new license plates, they will be issued in the changed name by signing the application with your present and previous names.
UTILITY TRAILERS weighing less than 4000 lbs are not required to be title. To obtain a license plate, procure a weight card from the State License Bureau and have the trailer weighed.
