2015 City Parks Clean Up

boy recyclingThe City Park Clean Up was held on April 11. The weather was perfect with sunny skies and little wind. This long standing event used to be held on the 3rd Saturday in March, but with the severe winters it was decided to be moved to the 2nd Saturday in April.

The new date didn’t deter the participants! Again we achieved over 300 volunteers! Students from local high schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and church groups joined the local residents to tackle each park.

The parks included: Kingsbury, Latty Grove, Diehl, Fort Grounds, Pontiac, Triangle, Bronson, Riverside and the Reservoir.

The City Park crews maintained the trash cans and chip or hauled leaves and branches. Volunteers with rakes, brooms, or shovels pitched in to get the park ready for use!

Sponsors for the T-shirts and food were provided by City Beverage, Moose Lodge No. 2094, Servicemaster Clean, Defiance Optimist International Club and Defiance County Environmental Services KAB.

Jody Doyle and Christy Brown (City Parks) coordinate this event every year and it is a success due to the volunteers and the flawless organization. Jody Doyle will be ‘retiring’ and this was her last City Park Clean Up. Jody was instrumental in starting a park clean up event 20 years ago. It is now this City Park Clean Up, an annual event and this is due to her dedication. Thank you Jody Doyle!!
